Job Summary
Curro is seeking to appoint a head of high school who is a strategic thinker and can lead with heart and purpose at Curro Soshanguve in Soshanguve. The head of high school is responsible for managing school targets through the effective application of Curro policies and procedures as adapted and customised to the needs of the school. The head of high school is also responsible for the active teaching, knowledge transfer, skills development and growth of positive attitudes among learners through integrated and focused teaching approaches and mentoring staff. In addition, the role involves teaching and coordinating specific subjects as per the Curro and CAPS curricula for the senior phase.
Job Description
  • Academic Leadership Oversee the management of academics across the high school, ensuring excellence in teaching, learning, and curriculum delivery.
  • Strategic Planning & Implementation Develop and execute annual business and strategic plans, incorporating academics, sport, cultural activities, social responsibility, marketing, brand image, and facilities management.
  • School Administration & Curriculum Management Plan and manage school administration and academic operations, including timetables, curriculum development and implementation, work schemes, class observations, staff duties, and communication processes.
  • Staff Management & Mentorship Lead and mentor staff through recruitment, performance appraisals, disciplinary processes, skills development, and mediation.
  • Pastoral Care & Discipline Manage interventions and disciplinary processes while guiding staff in pastoral responsibilities.
  • Student Development & Fundraising Oversee student leadership programmes and coordinate fundraising initiatives.
  • Financial Management Develop and manage the school budget, including payroll administration.
  • Health, Safety & Security Ensure compliance with health, safety, and security standards across the school environment.
  • Assessment & Reporting Manage assessments and reporting processes, from scheduling timetables to evaluating remedial actions.
  • Learning Environment Management Plan and oversee classroom and learning environment set-up for optimal performance, including provision and maintenance of learning tools and equipment.
  • Assessment & Homework Oversight Coordinate formal and continuous assessments, homework, moderation, revision, and supervision.
  • Teaching & Outreach Teach and tutor classes while actively participating in outreach drives and school events.
Key Skills / Requirements
  • BEd degree and/or PGCE in FET education, with an honours degree in education advantageous
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience as a phase head or deputy head at a high school
  • Proven management and leadership skills and business acumen  
  • Knwowledge of CAPS curriculum
  • Tech-savvy with an eye for modern educational tools
  • Ability to lead and mentor staff members
  • Excellent communication, organisational and planning skills
  • Willing and able to work extended hours, travel and to become involved in all aspects of school life
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • SACE-registered
  • Clear criminal record
